Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon

A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, two quills saltirewise Argent penned Or between an eagle displayed and wreathed with laurel branches Or and a lamp of knowledge of the like enflamed Gules.  Attached above the shield a Red scroll inscribed "HIGH ABOVE" and attached below the shield a Red scroll doubled back and inscribed "THE REST," all in Gold letters.

Symbolism

Dark blue and scarlet are the colors traditionally associated with The Adjutant General's Corps.  Blue is symbolic of loyalty and perseverance; red is indicative of courage, zeal and leadership; white personifies integrity and gold reflects knowledge, achievement, excellence and high ideals.  The quills represent The Adjutant General's functions and the lamp of knowledge denotes leadership and the unit's mission.  The golden eagle wreathed with laurel exemplifies the unit's motto and refers to the unit's high ideals, goals and achievement.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 10 August 1988.
